One of the most visible gateways into Peachtree Heights Park, Haynes Manor, and Westover is about to receive a long-awaited transformation. Through a partnership between the Peachtree Battle Alliance and Buckhead Heritage, the historic E. Rivers Lodge at the corner of Peachtree Road and Peachtree Battle Avenue will become both a beautifully restored neighborhood landmark and Buckhead Heritage's new headquarters.
PBA and
Peachtree Battle Alliance Neighborhood Improvement will lead the enhancement of the landscaping and entrance, creating a welcoming gateway that will complement the neighborhood entrances on Northside Drive, also designed by
Land Plus Associates. Buckhead Heritage will restore and maintain the historic building, ensuring this important piece of our neighborhood's history is preserved for generations to come.
PBA has been incredibly fortunate over the past several years to see a remarkable revitalization of the spaces and places that make our historic neighborhood so special.
From the restoration and enhancement of key neighborhood entry points at
Sam T. Roberts Memorial Park, at Northside Drive and Peachtree Battle, and the Sagamore entrance, to the creation of
Betty Young Park, a new play park and community gathering place, these projects, made possible through generous donations, have enhanced our neighborhood while preserving its distinctive character and sense of place. Soon, we will welcome what promises to be both a shining jewel along the Beltline and a world-class cultural destination: the
Molly Blank Center for Opera and Arts.
We are now thrilled to partner with
Buckhead Heritage and
Peachtree Battle Neighborhood Improvement (PBANI), a
separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization from PBA, which is a 501(c)(4). PBANI will spearhead fundraising efforts to thoughtfully restore and improve the main entrance to our historic neighborhood on "The Lodge" grounds and the surrounding "tip" of Median Park across from E. Rivers.
This long-overdue and somewhat serendipitous coming together could not have happened at a better time. With so much thoughtful investment occurring throughout the Peachtree Battle Alliance, this project represents another important step in preserving our neighborhood's history while ensuring its public spaces remain beautiful, welcoming, and well cared for into the future.
Taken together, these projects represent something larger than individual improvements. They reflect a commitment to significant historic preservation coupled with a bright and vibrant future, not only for the Peachtree Battle Alliance neighborhood but for the City of Atlanta. As our city continues to grow and evolve, preserving the places, landscapes, architecture, and stories that connect us to Atlanta's past becomes increasingly important. We are proud that our neighborhood can play a meaningful role in that stewardship while also investing thoughtfully in what comes next.
PBA would especially like to thank our Parks Committee and its chair, Marc Schneideau, as well as the PBANI Board and PBA Board, for their dedication, vision, and considerable efforts toward making meaningful capital improvements and partnerships throughout the neighborhood over the past several years.
Stay tuned for more news on how you can contribute to this historic corner of the neighborhood.
