Fire Hydrant Testing
Posted on Aug 5th, 2022

Please see the below and attached information (.pdf) from the Department of Watershed Management regarding Fire Hydrant Testing starting on Monday, August 8th. There is not a schedule for when crews will be in specific districts, but we will communicate any further information we receive.  Please forward this to your neighborhood contact lists.
Fire Hydrant Testing
As a part of the Water Distribution System Hydraulic Model Recalibration Project, the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management (DWM) has contracted Arcadis to perform hydrant pressure and flow testing on various hydrants in the City of Atlanta, Sandy Springs, and South Fulton.
The work is scheduled to begin Monday, August 8, 2022, and continue through Friday, September 2, 2022.
During fire hydrant testing, a high-volume of water is flushed through the system. Water can become discolored while this testing takes place. If residents experience discolored water, it is likely from rust, and, to a lesser extent, other materials being dislodged from the iron water mains during the testing process. This condition is temporary, and if residents experience discolored water from their faucets, please advise them to run water from the tap for a few minutes until it becomes clear again.
