City Tennis Centers Contract Update

The City Council took an important vote today regarding a new operator for its five tennis centers, which include Chastain and Bitsy Grant. I proposed --- and Council approved, 14-1 --- that we discard, or "file," a recommendation from the city's Procurement Department to award the contract to Agape Tennis Academy. Agape beat out United Tennis Academy (UTA), which has operated the five centers for more than a decade, in an RFP conducted by the Procurement Department.
UTA's contract, which had been extended by over a year, expired in early August. Since then, the city's Parks and Recreation Department has operated the tennis facilities --- currently for singles play only due to COVID. With this vote, the city's Parks and Recreation Department must decide if it wants to continue to run the centers or begin the bidding process anew at some point in the future. Today's vote was NOT a choice between UTA and Agape. It was to confirm (or reject) Procurement's recommendation that Agape get the contract. In the end, Council believed the best course for the city was to "file" the proposal.
