Improper Recycling - You can get fined!
Posted on Sep 3rd, 2018

Hello, Nacoochee Neighbors!

Please be aware of the Do's and Don'ts of recycling at home in the city of Atlanta...

It has been brought to my attention they have begun monitoring what is in your recycling bin. I kid you not, should they see any unapproved items in your bin, the "pick-up" workers will report you and you will be paid a visit by an officer assigned to our district to, personally, deliver you a citation. It's a new city initiative they are taking very seriously.

Here are a few examples of recycling no-no's:
  • Plastic grocery bags
  • Wood or yard trimmings
  • Plastics with no recycling numbers or a #"8" or greater.
  • Drinking glasses, mirrors, window glass, ceramics such as plates & coffee mugs, pyrex dishes, china, light bulbs, and any other non-container glass
  • Packaging materials like “peanuts”, tissue paper, plastic bags, or polystyrene
  • Food contaminated items like pizza boxes

Here is a link for additional information on what can and cannot be recycled: https://www.atlantarecycles.com/recycling-at-home.html.

Additionally, please remember to break up your boxes as that, too, most likely will result in a fee.

Please let me know if you have any questions -- let's stay safe out there, neighbors!

Sincerely,
Your Dutiful Block Captains
